Shrek and Donkey and Fiona

LEAKED! Original ‘Shrek’ script was going to debut Shrek as a villain!

Following a data breach at DreamWorks Animation, a leaked early script for the beloved animated film ‘Shrek’ has unveiled a drastically different storyline that diverges sharply from the version audiences know and love today.

In this original script, Shrek is not the lovable protagonist but rather the keeper of a fearsome dragon that terrorizes the fairytale kingdom. The true hero of this early narrative is Donkey, who sets out on a courageous mission to slay the dragon and free the kingdom from its reign of terror.

Against all odds, Donkey succeeds in defeating the dragon, causing the death of Shrek’s beloved companion. Devastated by the loss, Shrek descends into a dark and vengeful fury, embarking on a rampage across the land to avenge the dragon’s demise.

The leaked materials include early concept art and storyboard sequences depicting a darker, more antagonistic portrayal of Shrek, originally conceived as the keeper of chaos rather than its source.

Voice actors Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz, who lent their talents to Shrek, Donkey, and Princess Fiona respectively, reportedly welcomed the change in direction. This shift not only allowed for more dynamic character interactions but also contributed to ‘Shrek’ becoming a cultural phenomenon that blended humor, satire, and heartfelt storytelling in a way that resonated with audiences of all ages.

As DreamWorks Animation investigates the data breach and evaluates its impact, the leaked ‘Shrek’ script offers a rare glimpse into the early creative choices that could have altered the course of animated cinema history. It underscores the transformative decisions that ultimately shaped ‘Shrek’ into the enduring classic cherished by millions worldwide.

  1. I’m a huge fan of the current Shrek and how it’s influenced online culture, but this early concept seems very intriguing. If they made a spin-off of Shrek using this original story, I would be the first one buying a ticket!
